Description
Kimel Plantation was established in 1974 by an Australian, Bobby Gibbs. It is now in the hands of the Opais, the original tribe that inhabited the land. Although the estate is owned by native residents, the plantation is managed by expatriate staff selected by the production management. The plantation currently has a permanent workforce of 432 people, which are housed on the estate. Kimel Estate also provides schooling for children and medical facilities for its residents. Because the estate is located along the Kimel River, from which it takes its name, it has access to clean, good-quality water for crop processing, which is a prerequisite for healthy cultivation and dedicated management to continually create new batches of specialty coffee.
This coffee brings together many incredible botanical varieties to offer an outstanding cup. Typica in two forms, Mundo Novo, Caturra, Catimor, and Arusha are present. This coffee will bring you a bright acidity in the form of lime, mango, and apple that is carefully balanced by a discreet sweetness of apricot and dried fig. The sugars tend toward pecan, praline, and sweet nougat. As for the original character, there's a grassy, spicy finish in the palate of sweet sage and fresh rosemary that brings balance and a certain roundness to the cup. This coffee is incredibly complex and flavorful.
