Coffee preparation guide: Using a V60 type brewer

Jao Joel

This is a variation of the Pour Over infusion method, which is also found in a Chemex filter coffee preparation. It has become common to use the trade name V60, from the Hario brand, to designate a full immersion infuser with a capacity of 2 cups. The reason being that the V60 is the best-selling model, for its ease of use and the great value for money it offers.

To be able to prepare a cup of hot coffee at any time of the day, all you need is ground coffee and a V60 on hand: get your infuser on this page .

Guide to making filter coffee: using a Hario V60

Everything you need to prepare filter coffee with V60:

  • Your 2 cup brewer (Hario V60 always does the trick)
  • 29g semi-fine ground coffee (1:14 ratio)
  • Filters #2
  • 400ml of water , which you will bring to a temperature of 93.5°C / 200°F
  • A small amount of additional hot water to preheat the equipment
  • A jug
  • Infusion time: 3 to 4 minutes

Preparation steps:

  • Gather the necessary equipment, which you will need to clean if necessary
  • Install the filter in the V60 type infuser and place everything above the carafe
  • Preheat by pouring hot water inside
  • Discard this water which was used to condition the material
  • Then add the ground coffee to the filter
  • Start the timer and start pouring 50ml of water over the coffee
  • Make sure the entire surface of the ground coffee is soaked
  • Let it sit for 30 seconds , before pouring in the 350 ml of water again.
  • Allow the process to last 2:30 to 3 minutes , to optimize the infusion
  • Make sure that the ground coffee is soaked in its entirety
  • Discard or recycle the grounds when all the drink is filtered
